Elaine Beckley Has Passed

Thanks to Joyce Tisovec for letting so many of Elaine's friends know.

Long-time resident and staple here in Lynnhaven passed suddenly Saturday Morning, October 14th, in her daughter's home and looking forward to her grandson's birthday party. While Elaine was living in Lynnhaven, she was a member of the Lynnhaven Ladies Book Club for a while; was active in Lynnhaven Ladies, even serving as the club's President; Lynnhaven Neighbors, serving on the Council as an at-large member for most of those years and serving on many event committees; and was active in her Swainwood Villas group, as well.

Elaine was always happy to lend a helping hand whenever asked or to anyone needing it. Elaine had volunteered and served on the Lynnhaven Ladies' Helping Hands committee for a few years, often making homemade chicken soup, which she strained several times, for those who were undergoing treatments that made it hard for them keep food down. It was while she was President of Lynnhaven Ladies that she learned of Haven and started collecting for the women and children living in the shelters at meetings. She then started accepting donations at her home, and took everyone's donations to Leesburg, sometimes filling her car and making two or three trips a week to drop them off at the Haven Thrift Store where donations were dispersed from.

As her health declined, Elaine was persuaded to move back to Maryland to be closer to family and sold her house the end of last year. Recently, she had been hospitalized with an infected toe that spread throughout her body. As she improved, she was sent to rehab, then was sent back to the hospital, then rehab again, but was finally home again. Although she loved being closer to her kids and grandchildren, she missed everyone in Lynnhaven. She will be missed.

Here is Elaine's obituary, which appeared in The Washington Post
