Suggestion If Mailbox Keys Left Behind
Tom
Tighe noticed that someone left their keys in their mailbox. He didn’t take them down, figuring the easiest way to get them back to
the owner would be through a Lynnhaven email.
Thanks, Tom.
This
happens waaay too often and I am continually amazed when no one claims their
lost keys after someone has found them and turned them in somewhere (not
likely since the rec. centers have been closed) or at my house. Sometimes
they include house and car keys, as well. How can you not notice that
they're missing?
Rather than turning keys in somewhere, I'm proposing the following:
- If the mailbox is empty with the key still in the lock, re-lock the
mail box and leave the key where it is. The owner will be embarrassed
that he or she was so careless, but relieved that the keys are still
there.
-
If
the mailbox still has mail in it, lock the box and drop the key in the
clear plastic holder near the door behind the mail station
(golf course side). I suspect that is the reason the holder was
installed there in the first place.
- If you found the keys elsewhere (e.g., along the road)... any key
found in Lynnhaven, still drop them in the clear plastic holder.
- If you've lost your keys and they aren't hanging from your mailbox,
check that clear holder at the back of the mail station.
 The
number on the mail key does not match your mailbox number, so it isn't easy
to get the keys back to the owner, and the other keys are only useful to the
person who lost them so they should be safe in the holder. Also, it is VERY
expensive to replace those keys, especially if a car key is attached. Trust
me. If you left a credit card behind at a store or restaurant, you retrace
your steps. The same should hold true if you lose keys. If they remain at
the mail station, it should be easier for all, finders and losers alike.
The Villages Lost & Found
Depending
on where items are found, Inexpensive Items
are held for 1 month at the
closest Regional center. Check or turn a found item in to the
Regional center closest to where the item was lost or
found:
- Laurel Manor if lost
or found
south of Rt. 466
- La Hacienda if
lost or found north of Rt. 466
- Eisenhower if lost
or found south of Rt. 466A
You can also check the nearby recreation centers since some
people drop found items off there, but those recreation centers do
not hold them very long before they send items to the nearest
regional center.
Depending on
where items are found,

Items are
turned over to the police within 72 hours:

At
the end of Each Month,

Lost or Found Pet
I
strongly
recommend having your pet micro-chipped and keep your contact
information current. If a pet is taken to a local veterinarian or
animal hospital, the vet can scan for a chip and access the contact
information. In the very least, keep a tag on your pet at all times
(in case they slip out... it happens) with the pet's name and your
phone number on it. A resource to keep in mind for Lost or Found Pets is:
-
Lynnhaven Webmaster
to send out an email
The sooner, the better... and if not found quickly, put on the
Lynnhaven Village website.
- The
Villages radio station, AM640 WVLH:
750-9854 or
259-6400
They will announce it on the air to reunite pets
with their humans.
-
Pet Lovers Rescue:

-
Talk of The Villages' Lost & Found web page
- Local Veterinarians and Animal Hospitals
