2019 Strike for Sight Bowling Event a Great Success

Our 2019 Strike for Sight Bowling Event on March 31st was a huge success. Thank you to all  the Companies that contributed to the raffle prizes:  GM, Vanganaway Chevy, Mellow Mushroom, Oakwood BBQ, Gators Dockside, Rosati's Pizza, Target, Epic Movies, Chili's, Dr. Robert Willson, Great Lighthouses of the World, Lakeside Inn, and Break point Alley. The Mt Dora Lions also made baskets to be raffled off. Some participants that sponsored teams were Lake Eustis Christian Church, Ormond by the Sea Lions, Winter Garden Lions, Lakes at Mt. Dora, Imperial Terrace, Mid Florida Eye and a lot of walk ins that just wanted to join in the fun. High games for 1st & 2nd place teams were awarded, blind bowling was tried, buy a strike and a 50/50 drawling. Thank you to Striking Effects Promotions for the printing of our 1st and 2nd place winners and to Break Point Alley for hosting our event.  All the proceeds went to the Kids Sight Camera Initiative and we are happy to say that we have reached our goal!

Kid Sight Camera Initiative

It is amazing that this country does not test the vision of every child by 2 years of age (and in some cases never)... when 80% of learning is visual. Once children fall behind in their critical first years of learning, they are doomed to try to play catch-up and might never achieve their potential. Also, there are eye pathologies that can only be corrected within the first few years of life. The Lions Kid Sight Program fights to fill these critical gaps in children’s eye care through the use of special cameras that can diagnose vision needs and several eye pathologies by simply pointing the camera at children’s eyes and pushing a button. The camera automatically diagnoses the child’s vision needs and the information is passed onto the parents, who are encouraged to take their children to ophthalmologists for full diagnoses and corrective measures. Typically, at least 15% of preschool children are helped by these incredibly valuable tools — the Kid Sight camera.
