Getting an Appointment for the COVID-19 Vaccine

So many of us have been told that the vaccine is available. All we have to do is call or drive up to get it, only to be told they ran out or appointments are already booked to capacity. First come, first serve resulted in long lines, with vaccine doses depleted within an hour. Then we could sign up online, but the system crashed or completing the information was confusing or not accepting the data you were trying to enter and gave up.

The Villages Daily Sun published information about it, but it was incorrect. Thanks to the Peregrines, Dave Laluk, Ron Kalmin and others, we have the right information, and they've improved the process, as well.

To sign up:

  1. Go to SafeRestart* (click on link to go to the website) and register.
  2. Click on the Step 1: I need to Register for a COVID-19 Vaccination box, then click Continue.
  3. Provide all the requested information and submit it.
  4. After a successful registration, you will get a Registration Verification notification.
  5. When it is your turn, you will receive a second notification with a personalized code that will allow you to complete the second step (scheduling your appointment).
  6. Return to the SafeRestart website and click on the Step 2: I have a Code for COVID-19 Scheduling box, then Continue and book your appointment.

Please be patient, do not register more than once, and only schedule one person per scheduling session. Additional timeslots will continuously be added as more doses of the vaccine become available.

* SafeRestart is not affiliated with the Department of Health and is a legitimate website. Sumter County Health Department is not currently accepting registration by phone, in person, or via email it is online only.
